There are two types of examinations conducted in the college.
University Examination: The Sambalpur University conducts examinations for
the three-year postgraduate degree courses.
College Examination: The College conducts the test examination for different
classes.
UNIVERSITY EXAMINATION
The Three Year Degree Course leading to the Bachelor’s degree in
Arts/Science/Commerce of Sambalpur University shall be spread over a period of
three academic years. A candidate for the bachelor’s degree in
Arts/Science/Commerce shall be required to pass the following examinations.
i) First University Examination
ii) Second University Examination
iii) Final University Examination
A candidate shall be eligible to appear the second and final
University examination only if he/she has registered for the first and second
University examination respectively. However, his/her results shall not be
published unless he/she haws passed in thr first and Second University
Examination respectively. Pass Mark and Classification of Successful candidates.
Aggregate mark for passing the degree examination shall be
the sum total of the aggregate of First, Second and Final Examination taken
together.
1. Class will be awarded on the following basis.
Pass :-
A minimum of 30% in each subject and a minimum of 36% of mark in the aggregate.
Pass with Distinction:
A minimum of 30% in each subject and a minimum of 50% of marks in the aggregate.
Pass without Honours:
A minimum of 30% in each subject and a minimum 36% in aggregate in subjects
other than Honours and less than 45% but not less than 36% in Honours subject.
Pass without Honours and with Distrinction.
A minimum of 30% in each subject and a minimum 36% in aggregate in subjects
other than Honours and a minimum of 50% in aggregate for pass and Honours
subjects combined. Second Class Honours:
A minimum of 30% in each subject and a minimum of 36% in aggregate in subjects
other than Honours and a minimum of 45% marks or more but less than 60% in
Honours subject. Second Class Honours with Distinction. :
In addition to 2nd class Honours a minimum of 50% marks secured in subject other
than Honours in first appearance. First Class Honours :
A minimum of 30% in each subject and a minimum of 36% in agge=reate in subjects
other than Honours and a minimum of 60% or more in Honours. First Class Honours
with Distinction :
In addition of First Class Honours a minimum of 50% mark in aggregate in
subjects other than Honours in first appearance. In each of the above
examination for subjects having practical a candidate, in order to pass, must
have secured a minimum of 30% of marks in theory paper (s( taken together in a
subject and a minimum of 40% marks in practical paper other than Honours
subjects provided he/she has secured the minimum aggregate mark. In each of the
above examination for subjects having practical, a candidate, in order to secure
Honours, must have secured a minimum of 45% of marks in theory paper (s) taken
together and a minimum of 45% marks in practical paper (s) taken together in
Honours subject.
Back Paper:
1. If a candidate is marks absent in any sitting (s) of an examination, such a
candidate shall have to reappear in that paper (s) subject (s) in order that
his/her results are declared.
2. A candidate failing to secure a minimum of 30% in pass subject and/or a
minimum of 40% in each practical paper either in the First, second or Final
examination of this University may be allowed to appear in those subjects in not
more than two chances (examinations) immediately following that examination for
which he was first registered, to clear the back paper (s) on payment of
prescribed fees.
3. However, if a candidate who has not cleared an examination may at his option,
appear in all the paper of that examination under the following conditions.
i) Marks secured by the candidate in that examination earlier stand cancelled.
ii) After exercising the option to appear in all papers of an examination,
candidate fails to clear that examination, he/she will be required to appear in
all the papers of that examination in a subsequent chance, within 5 years of
first registration to First degree examination.
4. If a candidate has appeared in back papers in the first chance and in all the
papers in the second chance and also has failed, such a candidate can appear at
that examination (in all the papers) under new course only within 5 years of 1st
registration to First degree examination.
5. If the candidate fails to secure the pass marks in the aggregate (under
regulation 5.2) he/she may reappear in one or more subjects/paper(s) of his
choice from either the First, second or Final examination to make up the
deficiency. This chance shall be available to a candidate in maximum two
subsequent chances (examinations) only following the Final Examination in which
he/she was first registered but within 5years of 1st registration to First
degree Examination.
Improvements:
(i) Candidates who have been duly admitted to B.A./B.Sc./B.Com (Honours) (3year
degree course) examination of the Sambalpur University and have obtained only a
Second class (Hons.) or passed without Honours can reappear at any examination(s)
for the Honours papers only of his/her choice to improve their results within
two subsequent chances (Examinations), on application submitted through the
Principal of a Collage affiliated to Sambalpur University in the subject up to
the Honours level. The higher of the marks in each paper shall be taken into
consideration for determining their results and divisions. However, distinctions
if earned by the candidate shall not be effected by improvements examination
under the clause.
(ii) Provided that a candidate shall be allowed to improve his performance in
theory papers only and only once after passing the B.A./B.Sc./B.Com (3years
degree course) Examination of Sambalpur University.
(iii) A candidate who wished to improve performance in Hons. Shall be required
to fill in appliation forms and pay the requisite fees accordingly.
(iv) Collegiate candidates taking this advantage be treated as regular
candidates and will be examined on the basis of current syllabus.
(v) The expression ‘Subject’ shall include all the papers comprised in the
subject.
(vi) Provided further that in no case a candidate shall be allowed to appear any
examination after 5 years of first registration to First University Examination.
For Post-Graduate Class:
Division/Class is awarded on the following basis.
Division/Class Minimum Aggregate Marks
First Class - 60%
Second Class - 50%
Third Class - 36%
For Post-Graduate Degrees, Examinations are conducted in two parts: Part-I at
the end of First year and Part-II at the end of the Second year. A candidate can
appear both the parts at the end of Second year if he/she fails to appear Part-I
in the First year.
Improvement:
1. A candidate may improve his performance in not more than four papers,
choosing such papers either from Part-I or Part-II or from both Part-I and
Part-II subject to the following conditions:
a)(i) Either he can improve in four papers in all in any one chance of the next
two immediate chances subsequent to the publication of his results
(ii) or he can appear in any one of the papers of Part-I examination held
immediately after publication of his Part-I result, along with his Part-II
Examination and the balance in he next two immediate chances subsequent to the
publication of his results.
b) A Candidate shall not be allowed to appear for improvement in the same paper
more than once.
c) (i) The higher of the marks secured by him in each paper taken separately
shall be retained for the purpose of computing his results.
(ii) A candidate who has passed in part-I and Part-II Examination shall be
permitted to re-appear for one chance only to improve his performance, provided
he surrenders the diploma already granted to him/her for the examination he has
passed earlier. Such candidates shall have to appear at the regular examination
conducted by the University and the higher of the two marks shall be retained
for the purpose of awarding the degree.
(iii) However, no candidate shall be allowed to take advantage of both the
conditions as under I and II mentioned.
College Examination Rules:
1) All college examination shall be conducted by an examination Committee
nominated by the Principal.
2) Students have to take at least one comprehensive general examination during
the academic year besides the routine tutorial tests held during the academic
year.
3) Students who fail to appear at the comprehensive general examination shall
not ordinarily be considered for being sent up for the University Examinations.
4) Students shall be sent up for the University Examination on the basis of
their performance at the various examination held during the year to be assessed
by the Staff Council. The test examination for +3 first year, second year and
third year classes are requirements according to Orissa education Code.
5) In exceptional cases, the Principal may consider the case of a student who
fails to appear at any of the comprehensive general examinations, provided
he/she produces adequate documentary evidence in support of his her absence to
the satisfaction of the Principal.
6) Any act of indiscipline or infringement of general examination rules or
misconduct will make a student liable for fines and/or detention/rustication.
7) Every student must clear all the dues and must submit a clearance certificate
in the prescribed from available in the office before publication of the results
if Test/Annual examination failing which he/she will be detained.
The Orissa Conduct of Examination act 1988:
As per the above Act, adoption of unfair means and loitering near the
Examination Centre in course of a recognized Examination is a cognizable offence
punishable with imprisonment for a term, which may extent to three months, or
with fine, which may extend to three thousand rupees but shall not be less than
five hundred rupees. Unfair means has been defined as taking or giving or
attempting to take or give any held, other than one permissible, if any under
the rules applicable there to from any material, written, recorded or printed or
relayed or from any person, in any from whatsoever.
